Default Rear vents very weak

Hi guys,

I have a 98 GS300. I am usually not in the back so I don't notice these things but when I tried to cool down the car the other day, I noticed that the rear vents are not working very well. I can have the fan turned up all the way and the fronts will be noisy and strong but the rear vents will still be only a whisper. Is there something I can check? Is something clogged?

Thanks for any help.

Maybe a kangaroo climbed in there and stopped it up

Heh, couldn't help putting that one out there...

On a more serious note, that rear vent is not very effective to start, just FYI it is fed by a duct that goes from the top center of the dash, behind the radio, then along the sides of the console and up to the vents. Not sure how strong a brand new car would blow from them, but I know it's not that great.

The only thing that could be a problem is if the door that directs the air is bad, but that's pretty unlikely. Possible, but unlikely.

I'll check on a couple GS' here and let you know roughly how they are.

Thanks guys. I am only comparing it to our MDX, which has an optional independent rear setting. Air flow is what is expected. We actually have to turn on the rear control to turn the flow down since it works too well sometimes.

It is fairly strong, enough to make say a piece of paper wave a little if you hung that in front, but not a whole lot more than that. Definitely won't make a strong wind.

I've noticed that mine works best when I'm not using the automatic mode and I direct the air out of just the front dash vents. No defrost, No floor. Give it a try!
