96 sc400 stainless exhaust tip question
my exhaust tip extends further out on one side than on the other. how can i adjust them? the dealer is no help, they are trying to talk me into buying new exhaust tips at over $75 a piece to get some money. i have tried to get the tips off myself, but with no luck. are they welded on? i like the stainless steel instead of the chrome, and they are still in good shape. i just hate to see one side extended further out than the other. do i need to go to a muffler shop to get them to help with adjustment? the lexus dealer is the same dealer that told me that i needed an o-ring for my sc400 1996. a lexus tech at another dealer told me that on the v-8, you do not have an o-ring !!!!! any sc400ers out there in atlanta, or anywhere that can help me?
also, what can i clean my exhaust tips with to make them shine a little more?

The tips are not welded on. They just push on and pull off. They are most likely rusted, so try spraying a lubricant around the area, wrap a towel around the tip, and use a pair of pliars to gently remove it. After you have removed it, clean the pipe off with the lubricant, and then push it back on.
You also don't have to pay quite that much for new tips. You can buy them from Carson Toyota, or check the local junk yard.
As far as shining them, you can use a chrome polish like Blue Coral.

thank you very much. i really appreciate your help. i was begining to wonder if anyone would answer. this is such a great board for information when the dealer is trained for this info and they only want to stick it to you.

No Pliers unless you're really careful of don't care if they're dented or scratched! Try leather gloves and some wiggling and twisting after the lub starts working. They'll move and then you can adjust the in and out. If they're misaligned up and down, that will probably take some bending to correct.
