Located on the rear anti-sway bar there's a clamp, bushing, small spring, and a small rod runs from the bushing thru the spring. It attaches to a module underneath my 1992 ES300 (not the strut unit). I was told it has something to do with the brakes/suspension. It is only on the driver's side. I think there should be one one the other side also.

a) What's the purpose of the bushing/spring combination?

b) Should there be one on the other side?

I'm trying to locate the source of an annoying rattle when driving at low speed (5-10 mph) over bumps. I've already replaced the rear struts. Before spending $$$ to replace the rear strut housing, I thought I would eliminate other potential causes.

I welcome anyone's suggestion with this problem.

Sounds like your talking about the brake proportioning valve. On hard braking the front end will dive and the rear end will rise. The rod then moves when the rear end raising, causing more brake pressure to go to the front brakes.

As for the rattle, how did you replace the reat struts without the housing? Did you use non-lexus parts? When I change struts I always change the strut support also. It can wear and cause a noise. Let us know what happens, Good luck!

Devildog Thanks.

Should there be one or two (both sides)?

I used the existing strut housing mount when I installed the aftermarket struts. I'll replace the strut mount. While I have everything off, I miight as well renew everything (rebuild calipers, pads, and rotor).

I'll let you know how it comes out. Right now, it's Maryland vs Stanford Time.

GO TERPS !!!! :D
