Hello fellow members,

I am looking at a 2007 ES350 in Orange County (Mission Viejo, CA to be specific). I am out of state and trying to figure out the best way to inspect the car (body and mechanical).

I don't really trust the Lexus dealers since I have heard a lot of negative stuff about their inspections.

Can anyone recommend a place to have such an inspection done? Or maybe can perform such an inspection (paid, of course)?

Pretty much any repair shop. Larger names such as Firestone (I work there), NTB, Pep Boys, etc, should be able to perform that service.

Make it very clear it is a prepurchase inspection.

I like it when people bring me prepurchase inspections - I get to inspect with a fine tooth comb and have no problems sharing all the bad that I find.

But don't those shops just check the mechanical part during their pre-purchase inspection? I thought they don't pay any attention to the body and "cosmetics"

You may not have great luck finding a shop that is great at both... something you can definitely ask when you arrive. We have spotted body and chassis repairs, but only those that are somewhat obvious. A really good body guy can tell if a cars been painted, how long ago and if they used the right paint - you won't find that at a repair shop, in general...

Got it, Carchex and AIM Mobile Inspections do what they call them 150-point inspections. But those guys are usually scheduled 2-3 days out so the car might be gone by the time they get to it and you are stuck with fees.
