Default 2001 Lexus es300 making whining noise from transmission

2001Lexus es300 is making a whining noise from the driver side of the car. Sounds like its coming from the transmission. The noise only last when the car is cold. what could be the cause of this?
Thanks for your help.

Its most likely coming from the front pump of the transmission. It sounds like you will probably need a new transmission in the near future. Unfortunately, this is fairly common with the ES/RX. How many miles are on the car? Have you changed the transmission fluid regularly?

I changed the fluid about a year ago. The car has 184, 000 miles on it. I took it to the shop and the guy said that he thinks its the torque converter.

If you plan to replace the torque converter, id just go ahead and replace the whole transmission, because its not very likely that the torque converter went bad. Ive never seen one go bad. It usually the front pump (which is what the torque converter goes into)...
