I just thought this was kinda funny, everybody's an expert.

The fluid was definitely dirty. Using the overflow as a fill is an interesting technique.
The fact he doesn't mention that the fluid level varies with temperature is a bit worrisome. It is important to know the ATF temp to get the level correct.
