I have a 1999 sc300, which over heated once due to a coolant leak. My temp gauge goes straight up to H immediately after start up and hesitates to start.

Would this be caused by a bad ect sensor??

I was reading on hear about a gs300 2jzge vvti ob2 that won't allow startup if the ect sensor is bad.

It definitely could be an issue. Have you been driving it with the coolant temp sensor going straight to H after startup? How do you know what temperature the engine is operating at? Is the check engine light on? Chances are if it starts at all, that may not be your problem. When you say hesitates to start, are we talking about it takes more turns of the engine than normal to start, or if you turn the key, it takes a second or two before you hear the starter engage?

I would get that part fixed either way, as you may never know if you have a coolant temperature problem if not, potentially leading to catastrophic damage...

The only way I can start it up is if it cranks over couple times while I step on the gas pedal couple of times, but still dosent work like this all the time. I'm guessing its due a bhg which is causing low compression. I've started it up twice since it happened but for only 4-5 seconds. Rpm was fine and not unusual sounds.

The temp needle seems to automatically go up regardless of what temp the engine is. No check engine lights.
