Anybody's GS400 emitting LASER that sets off their radar dectors?
I have a ESCORT P5000 --the old ones with the green LCD screen that matches the center console lights in the GS. I got it back in 96 and I love the way it looks, but the DAMN thing picks up LASER sporadicly in my 2000 GS. I have two of them and both do it, but only in this car. Anybody had this problem before, or know the source.
Thanks,
J

Someone posted that the LED taillights in some of the newer trucks were setting off their laser detectors...
I'm moving this thread to the lobby to get you a bit more coverage since this isn't likely an issue just for GS's.

It's 2 things actually
In my wife's RX on our trip to Fla. last year, the NAV according to Valentine's Tech Dept. was causing false laser alerts (rear).
On front Laser false alarms you guys all know about the decoys placed on certain "construction ahead" illuminated signs right, well as an added bonus we now have to contend with the CHMSL on Chevy Trailblazers, GMC Envoys, and so far BMW Z-8, that I have experienced. So if your GS has NAV and you are getting a rear laser alert, that is your most likely cause. Valentine did say you could cover the rear laser "pickup" with some black electrical tape and it should stop, but then you are naked for laser from behind. I noticed it alot more if someone (my wife) moved her hand or we got a reflection off of someone's clothes (lighter colored items) back up to the V1.
Those have been my observations...hopefully that sheds some light on your false alarms.

On my friend's M Coupe, the laser warning would go off whenever the sunroof was tilted. It was just strange, so we called up Valentine, and they said, "If the voltage drops or changes in some appreciable way, the laser warning will go off. That's the most likely explanation."
I do realize that you're using an Escort, but does it go off when you turn on a particular accessory or device? That could be a cause.

If you have NAV, it will set off the laser warning. One day while parked and taking my V1 off the windshield (still plugged in), I had the V1 aimed at the NAV screen. And what do you know? Damn thing was screaming laser warning straight ahead. I never had a laser warning from behind due to my NAV, but anything is possible. Curious to know if your 00 GS has NAV.

I've got the V1 placed on the visor, when tilted towards the car the Laser goes off constantly. It has to be level or tilted back and then it would start acting normal. Seems like there's some type of emission coming from the front of the car that sets off the Laser.

Shock therapy...
With my V1 permanently mounted high on the windshield, it doesn't give any trouble. However, the first time I tested it by holding it in my hand in the front seat and plugging in the power cord, I nearly threw the little beast out the window when it started warbling at full volume. I later found it was "seeing" the "multi-information display" on my '00 RX and interpreting it as a laser.

This is interesting, as I have the detector low on the windshield and it does possibly bounce/shake slightly at times, but I don't know what sources it might be picking up--perhaps the random light/laser sources from inside that are simply bouncing and reflecting off the glass.
thanks,

It seems to be entirely random but I'll check to see if I notice it going off when I there is a significant draw on the electrical system.
