Default stock rotor life expectency.....?

Hey guys,

What is the life expectency of the GS stock rotors front and back in term of milages? Let's assume that the car is operated mostly in normal driving condition...no hard breaking.

I need an excuse to jump on the break group buy......heheee

Thanks

You could probably get two brake jobs out of the rotors. Many stock rotors are 2mm thicker than the minimum thickness. Therefore you could probably machine them twice. That is of course if you drive like your grandma, not grandma andretti!

still on original pads and rotors and I'd say have at least half the pad left on the fronts. 20K on the car.

I know first year LS's (90-92) had bad braking systems. They had a single piston caliper and smaller rotors. They wear out pretty quick.

I think maintaining the shocks (replcing them on time) helps this, so the front end doens't have to dive and you press less on the brakes.

I'm not the original owner of my car, but I've got close to 55 K on my car. And the previous owner didn't put new rotors on since he owned it at ~15K.

I too need a good excuse to get new rotors ... either the slotted and drilled, or the new ones mentioned in the GS forum (Zinc).

Both are relatively close in price.

Do you know what the Minimum thickness is for the GS4 and if so could you please share? I would like to measure my rotors to see what I have left as Minimum.

Without having to look it up, look at your rotor. Every rotor has it stamped onto it. On your model, look on the outer side/center. Dont be surprised if you have to rub the rust away to see it. The stamped letter is thin, but the rotor rust will cover it. I'll have to get back to you next week on that spec.

Default Found Min Thickness Stamp

Well I found the min thick stamp on front rotor. I am well within spec.. Looks as if my rotors were changed before I bought my GS last June with 57K miles on it.

Here is a photo of the stamping on my rotor if any one is interested. It reads MIN TH 30MM

FYI:

A new rotor is only 1mm thicker than the minimum thickness.
