Default Differentail Question SC300

Well........today I finally got around to doing the first of six tranny flushes, and boy was that fluid dark, it was blacker than my damn car . So Monday I'm going to replace 2 more quarts and Tuesday 2 more, but my question is not about tranny fluid but differential oil instead.

I did a quick search and it seems like 75w90 is the best to use for a 97 SC300, am I mistaken...is there something better out there for a stock SC300? Now my next question is since I dont think this fluid has EVER been changed will or should I feel a difference in anything?

you should be fine with 75w-90. I replaced my buddy's differential fluid with Amsoil 75w-90 I believe. I highly doubt you will feel a difference though.

If its never been changed, then that drain plug will be pretty gunked up on the magnet.. Just clean it up good, and let all of the fluid drain. You'll be fine

I looked at the AMSOIL guide and its calling for either 75w90 or straight 90 if the temp is above -18 Celsius.

One of the tricks I'll do if the diff fluid hasn't been chaged in for ever is let it sit open with the drain and fill plugs out all day. Then when you go to change to the new oil, I squirt a little in and let it run out the still open drain plug to flush any of the leftover crap out.

If you decide to go with AMSOIL, let me know we're currently offering 10% off just for giving us a review.

Stock LSD? I'm assuming you're talking about the one from the Supra? If so, they use regular diff fluid like any other diff. Amsoil, Redline, Toyota, etc. You only need to switch if you have a clutch-type LSD that needs special friction modifier.

As GSteg said, the lsd is pretty much the same on fluids. The AMSOIL fluid that would recomend is Severe Gear 75W-90. It retails for $13.25 a quart and is designed for the type of abuse someone putting the LSD in a sc300 is about to give it. You'll need 2 quarts to fill it. If you're putting the fluid in with the diff in the car you'll need one of the funnels with the flexible hose, as theres no room to just tip the bottle up to pour it in.
