tranny slipping?
so my bro got a 2000 es300 with about 60k. the problem he has is that sometimes when in gear driving and he let go of the gas and step on it has a small delay like a second and then u feel the car shifting small jolt. one of my friend said it could be engine. sounds like a tranny to me what you guys think? it doesn't happend often.

Does it happen at low speed?
|
yes it does

I have that problem too. I believe when you let go of the gas pedal while the torque converter isn't above the stall speed, the transmission shifts into neutral. When you step on the gas again, the car goes into gear and you feel a jolt. The engine winds up a bit and all of the sudden you feel a jerk, correct?
|
sound about right? did u fix it?
|
happens in my SC4 too. want to get it checked out by a tranny shop but no money...
Peace out |
I have noticed this in a few ES300s, but it definitely didn't feel normal when I tried them out. One of my buddy's friends here in Florida has one that does this, but turns out the tranny fluid was a bit low and the color was a bit unred.

i'll ask him to check the tranny fluid.

Hmm i had that problem in my 2000 es300 also, now my 2001 gs300 has the same problem. I just figured it might be a problem with lexus; however it doesnt happen as often on the gs as it did on the es. My ES had 116k on it before it was totaled, my gs currently has 96k on it. I drove 20k in 10months =(

for me it happens sometimes. especially in traffic...it acts up. like it can't shift nicely or sumtin. in another thread it said something about a solenoid? is this a possibility?
peace out |

ne update did the flush work?

Just to straighten this out (for myself and others)...does it simply feel like it's stalling for a second/two between gears, or is it revving into high RPMs (3k+ at normal driving) then jolting?
First thing I'd check would be the tranny fluid. Make sure it's still transparent and reddish. Also, is this slip worse from a cold start? Or is it about the same (within about 300-400rpms) after it's been warmed up for a 60s+? The only problem that's sort of concerning me is that you said that "sometimes when in gear driving and he let go of the gas and step on it has a small delay like a second and then u feel the car shifting small jolt"... For me, this is typical on most cars I've driven, even if I'm accelerating slowly then push the pedal to the floor. To give you better acceleration, the transmission may downshift (unless you're in 1st gear, which is dangerous in the first place) and rev to higher RPMs. If the "jolt" isn't all that bad and all he's doing is accelerating quickly, you may not really have a problem after all. Hope some of this helps. |
