Smile Servicing a sc400

hey all, i'd like to say hello to every-1, as you can see i am a new user to this forum so sorry if i have posted this in the wrong section

im servicing a mates 1991 sc400 (v8) some time in the week and i want to know what kind of oil you guys can recommend, the car has done +150 000 kms.

i have not inspected the engine bay yet but is the oil filter difficult to get access to or is there a write up to a simple service on this forum?

Welcome to CL.

Here's a link, it's for LS400 but it shares the same motor.

API SM 5W30. Beyond that is personal preference. The filter is easily accessed from underneath. I recommend using a cup-style filter wrench, but a strap wrench will work as well. Also, there is no 1991 SC400. The first model sold was the 1992 SC400.

^Since he's in NSW, he's probably refering to the soarer which debuted in 91'. Otherwise they might have gotten a SC400 in 91' over-there first. But more than likely it's just a Soarer 4.0.

How does a Soarer 4.0 look like.
I saw a car once that Had Lexus Sc400 written over it but it didn't look like mine at all.
It looked older so I guess it's a 91 or 90 maybe they didn't come in to the U.S but in other countries they have it.

Not sure if you have a lift, but having one makes a big difference. I would suspect that you will have to remove the engine undercover, then you will find the filter on the drivers side, above a series of pipes. Good luck.
