I dont like the 5th gear on our car. The 5th gear should be taller. It's not like anyone needs to race in 5th gear anyways. Think of the gas mileage improvement if our engine revved at 2200rpm @ 80mph

Then again, not too many cars in 97 offered 6spd auto.

Cool, Ive had the car for two and a half years and all of a sudden I was like damn, the rpms are a bit high for 80 mph, but guess I never knoticed. I was starting to panic. I dont need another tranny to go out now. I just had a accord lose its tranny a month ago, which is probabbly why im more nervous.

I thought honda was a good car, but damn. when you call the dealer and they flat out say they dont do rebuilt trannys cause they dont last, gotta buy a new one at $3200 + $900 install with no warranty. Now thats bad when a dealer wont stand behind their own product. Im thinking ill just go with a jasper rebuilt with a 100, 000 waranty. I hear they are the best, but not cheap.

Thanks everyone for putting me at ease.

Anyone know if there is like a overdrive unit that can be added to the GS? I seen them before for older classic cars years ago.

The 5th gear in our transmission is the overdrive. There is no button. On older cars, turing off the overdrive button meant that you're staying out of the last gear (usually) because the gear ratio is below 1:1 ratio.

Honda doesn't rebuilt transmissions because they outsource their tranny from an honda rebuilding company. My guess is that the dealer wants to make money off of you. They profit a lot more from a new tranny than from a rebuilt.

Which dealer did you go to btw and what year/model is the accord?

I went to clawson honda here in fresno, ca. and its a 2000 honda acoord with the ulev vtech enging. the car runs strong, and when I bought it last year the tranny had just been rebuilt. I know honda is warrantying them to 109,000 miles but im at 199,500 miles. i hear good things about the jasper transmissions.

Zipping around on the 41, 180, 168 and 99 at 80 mph, revs my rpm at 2600. Having the E/M-shift option makes controlling the shifting that much better!

You saw me then.

Hell I drive 180 everyday and 41 prob 3-4 times a week. I cruze minimum 80 mph, my car is just happy there. My wife almost killed me the last time I took 41 south to 180 east innerchange at aprox 110 mph. I was supprised how well the car held to the road, but I did rub my 20" on the front wheelwell.

you here in fresno? what you driving, maby i seen you.

Its all about timming, definately avoid 41 between 5-6:30. I find it quicker to use the side street, and i dont get so agrivated with how many stupid drivers there are in this town. like yesterday, it started to rain and everyone is doing 45-50 mph down 180. Please, its a straight road with not alot of traffic, you can go the speed limit at least.

Im not sure if ive ever seen a green GS. Im in a Cinnabar pearl (red) 98GS400, theres like two others simular to mine here in fresno.
