Lexus' BIG mistake

They should have a maintenance schedule that requires "draining" the air from all the tires every 3,000 miles or so, after all keeping that air in those tires for the life of the car will allow it to grow stale and begin to smell like rubber inner tubes.

$130 sound like a reasonable price for the Labor involved in doing this?

Is this a joke?

No it is not, I just had mine done as part of my regular maintanence regime, It cost about me around $140.00 for 1 1/2 hour labor, and my tires are for the better. They were starting to smell like rotting rubber from all that moisture that builds up within the rubber walls of the tire. Thanks WWest for your suggestion, why didnt you tell us earlier?

Joke? well....

If Lexus is creative enough to make money by convincing their customers that they should change out their automatic transmission fluids and differential fluids on a regular basis then I figure why not go the extra USELESS mile.

I guess I'm just astounded that so many people with significant net worth are so VERY gullible. If you going to throw money away this way why not find a good charity to give your "extra" money to.

How does moisture get inside the tire? Its is absorbed through the rubber?

Where do you smell it?

I've never heard / smelled such a thing.

Richie 01-03-02 11:12 AM

I think the moisture can get in there trough condensation.

Wierd - usually compressed air is dried while in the compressor / tank. But I did a couple of minutes of research on the matter and here is one of the better articles:

Take it FWIW - For personal vehicles, not indistrial, I'm wouln't be too concerned about it.

Interesting tip nonetheless.
