Angry synthetic OILS!!

Do anyone have a problem using ie MOBILE 1?
my GS seems to have a barring knock when it is first started. Did anyone have the same problem? IT goes away in a few seconds. It is concerning....

I guess Lexus does not approve synthetic oil ?

MRJJP, no problems with Mobil 1 in my 430. Started using (in this car) with the change at 5K miles. I assume you've pulled dipstick to check level......

MRJJP - Only time I had a problem like that was from using a Quickee Lube (don't know if that was the name, just generic for the quick lube places). Got a slight rattle knock on startup that slowly went away over a minute or two. Checked with a friend and he said it was the oil filter. The filter provided by the quicky lube places is as cheap as it gets and I am pretty sure it did not even have a bypass valve in it. Anyway, I got religion and either change myself, use the factory, or bring my own filter, and no more startup noise. Don't know if that is your problem or not but I doubt it is the Mobil 1.

no problem for me at all... i ordered the filter from steve at $8.5(though i would like to give mobil1 filter a try, local wal mart does not sell them), + M1 from costco/wal mart($20/5 qts after tax)+$10 labor from this good tech guy whom i know fro many yaers...total ~$40

actually my servcice advisor at the dealer also recommend M1 oil, but he charges $65.

Will - Yep, I used to get my M1 oil filters at Wal Mart until they stopped carrying them ( didn't sell enough of them, I was told ). Even Pep Boys quit handling them but I found them at Auto Zone ( for now ). U can also go to the M1 online store but they're $9.99 per filter directly from Mobil. www.exxonmobil.com/netcom/mall/

William- which costco did you find that low of a price for mobil 1 oil, and what weight was it...the costco in SF downtown has only 10/ 30 only in synthetic and cost was about $23.50 last i check.

Anyone remember an article a few years back ... I think it may have been consumer report's on Beta ration of the different filters?

I gotta get a hold of one of my old co-workers ... he had a bunch of great articles .. that I'm sure that this board would find interesting.

hi guys, sorry but i dont know anything about synthetic oil. I did search on this topic(Mobile 1, synthetic oil...) and i come up with question,
is there any benefit on 135k miles car?
I'been to dealer for oil change but I might wanna change to Mobile 1 if there'd be any improvement.
I appreciate if you can help me up for this question.

Question Might Not Advise It

I don't think I'd switch over to a fully synthetic oil with 135k on the motor. It won't hurt anything but the clearances in the engine may be loose enough that U'll leak or burn more syn oil than a conventional one due to the superior viscosity of a synthetic. Might want to look at some of the synthetic blends though. Should lubricate better than a conventional but pose a smaller leakage problem than a 100% syn.

Long overdue here. My gs has 32k and is an 2001. Used the Mobil ! since the first oil change. All is well.
I now use synthetic in all my cars.
