Default V8 Gas

You don't have to run premium but for the little extra it costs you'd be crazy not to. The engines automaticly retard the spark timing if you run crappy gas. Less power. Way worse fuel milage. Highway driving in my SC400 I get about 15% more miles out of the same amount of gas if I ran premium.

Buying things like premium gas and little bits of maintenance and repair are what kill people.

Some people can afford to buy the car, but can't afford to own the car.

You bought a Lexus which reccomends using premium fuel for the best performance and efficiency. Just use premium and accept the costs that come with a high end car.

I ran 87 and always got better fuel miledge. its not like you'll break the motor, the ECU will retard the timing if need so.

the only time ive seen better fuel miledge with a gas was running 100 octane oxygenated fuel.

Actually it does harm the engines... after prolonged usage of 87 octane on the V8 (in particular) leads to the destruction of your knock sensors, which are $2xx something dollars each, yes you’ll need 2. Then the labor of having to remove the whole intake manifold to get to the 2 sensors...for a pro it’s a minimum 2-hour job. It could take hours for someone who doesn’t know what their doing.
And finally when the sensors go bad and u don’t replace them they will no longer tell the engine to “retard” the timing and thus you begin (and its not anything that will happen with in a day, it will take time) to slowly mess-up you various engine components....

In your case you’re running a 1jz so I can’t and won’t talk about that because I really have no idea about those engines. But with the mechanical knowledge I have and with the time I’ve spend working on the 3 Lexus V8s we have in my house, I’ve learned a few things….

In my opinion if you want to drive a lex don’t be cheap, pay the extra 5 bucks a tank… If not there’s always civics and even better mopeds u can drive…you can ever put a ½ oil 1/3 gas mixture in those.. and this is not pointed towards VJ RC51.. hes doing his own custom stuff that I give him props for.. these are for the guys rollin a bone stock SC's and cant aford the gas

Yeah well the 87 in the tank was for the 2JZGE.. the 1JZGTE i feed it 93 octane because i always romp on it, but if i knew i'd have an easy foot, running 87 octane in the 1JZGTE would be no big deal at all, as long as u dont run 10psi for extended periods of time or even really use boost. Remember off the blurbo its a low compression motor.

i used to run 87 octane in my grand national ALLLLLLL the time when i drove long distances. I would change chips to a stock chip and run 8psi of boost. When i needed power again id switch to my performance chip and 93 octane and run 20psi.
I drove it from florida to maine non stop on 87 octane, no probs.

Many people who buy used premium luxury cars don't realize you have to pay a premium price for maintanance on these rides. If you want low prices stick with econmy cars. If you think premium gas is high for these rides wait until you have to replace your lca's for a premium $1G +
