What does a 5000 mile checkup consist of?
Can it be done by a DIY mechanic?
How much have some of you paid at the dealership?
I want to clarify and research this before I do it.
Thanks
MIKE

Imo it's just an oil change . I notice that lexus does the major maintenance at every 15k . The first oil change is free so why not go to the dealer ?

Your 5k service (whatever else the dealership does, and some do a lot) is free, as was your 1k service. Your salesperson should have explained that to you; the sales staff literally has a checkoff list that they are supposed to go over with you re your new ride and it's proper care and feeding at the time of delivery.

As far as maintainence, you might run into warranty issues if you are changing oil yourself should you ever have trouble. Lexus is OK with the discount places as long as you can show receipts with mileage but DIY could be a problem.

5k is an oil change with tire rotation. Other fluids (brake, coolant, windshield washer, etc.) are checked and topped off.
