Would appreciate any coments (or pointers to existing posts) on when to change 1994 LS 400 Timing Belt.

Also, does the 1994 LS400 engine get damaged if he Timing belt breaks ?

The timing belt is usually replaced at 90k miles.

The 1994 LS is non-interference engine. If the timing belt break the engine will be fine, but you may stuck in the middle of nowhere...

No need for pointers- the search function will work fine for this subject. There's plenty of posts on how the belts are built to last, and how rare it is to find one that breaks.

I did try searching on the subject, but did not have much luck. Perhaps it was my inexperience. If someone knows of timing belt posts specific to the Ist Gen LS, I really would appreciate a pointer. That's what is great about this forum, we all try to help each other. In the past I have posted some useful info on power steering and instrument cluster issues. Thanks, Herm

I have a 1st-gen SC400, and our engines are the same. Try expanding your search to cover those models as well.

They've lasted as long as 191,000 and busted as soon at 92,000. Timing belt life varies alot depending on driving habits.

Calm, easy going highway drivers that tend to maintain a steady speed and who almost never floor the gas pedal can comfortably wait until about 15-20 years or 120-140,000 miles.

Hurried drivers that are constantly weaving in and out of traffic, speeding up and slowing down and who accelerate hard from stop signs and stop lights should change the belt somewhere between 60,000-90,000 miles.

Also, try to stick with oem timing belts. When I got my timing belt changed, I only stuck with oem. Also, you might want to change the drive belt, spark plugs and wires, cam seals, front crank seal, water pimp, and the tensioner while doing the t-belt. It'll save you labor cost and time to do it all at once. I got everything done for around $1,000 for parts and labor at a small shop. The guy did a great job too!!! Lexus wanted $1200 just to do the t-belt and h20 pump, and that includes labor!!!
