Question

This may appear to be a stupid question but I just purchased a volt meter and would like to start testing out the circuits and connectors myself. But the problem is how in the he*& do I do that. Do I leave the volt switch on ac or dc or what and do I leave the engine on or off?
I am also going to try to get all the codes by jumping the e1 to te1. But when I do that do I attach the wires first then turn the ignition on or leave it off?
Any suggestions will be of a great help.

Thanks guys.

How to use a Volt meter

Cars run DC pover 12-14V DC

Homes run AC pover 110-240 V AC

A car is 12V -14V this means have the volt meter to
set to a highter number like 20v.

some voltages are alive when the car is off, if this is
true the meter will show a voltage when the car is off.

(Like the alarm system)

the body of the car (metal area) is the ground (-)
and the power is usually a wire.

There is a lot more to know car are very smart. Some cars now use fiber cables.

Remember there is current , something new to learn

I=current
V=voltage
R=Resistance
