OK is it too much to do a simple drain & fill approx 2 quartz of trans fluid every oil change ? ( I am paranoid of transmission problems ) and change your air filter like every other oil change ?

- Why not do a complete transmission fluid flush to begin with? After that, change it again every 2 years or 30,000 miles.

- Depending on where you live, your air filter should last longer than that.......should last 30,000 miles as well. Consider switching to a K & N filter and you can wash it & re-use it as frequently as you want.

- Change your oil every 5,000 miles. Simply follow your owners manuals recommendations (might want to consider using synthetic oil for best protection & performance).

 

There is no harm in doing that, but it is really not necessary. I would drain it every 15,000 miles and flush it every 30,000. This is what I do with my 99 RX.

I change my Mobil 1 every 3,000 miles. I took a recent trip of about 5,000 miles round trip, and the oil was down about 1/4 on the marks.

You can change your air filter, and if you are using Toyota's air filter, I would especially do this. Since I live in a high altitude area, I immediately made the switch to a K&N after I noticed my car had virtually no power and the Toyota OEM air filter was just choking the air flow.

I would wash off the the oil on the K&N filter on the side facing the MAF, to avoid any sensor problems.

When you look at your ATF fluid, what color is it?

 

ATF is red in color.
Here is a question, when I check the trans fluid after driving it is above the hot mark, should I drain some out, why is it harmfull to have too much transmission fluid in there surely it is better than not having enough.

I drain and fill my ATF every other oil change (works out to be twice a year, once before summer and once before winter). For your purposes, I would suggest getting a K&N air filter and cleaning as often as you want. In any case, excessive maintanence never hurts except maybe your wallet.

Are you checking your ATF properly? To do so, your engine MUST BE ON AND RUNNING while you pull out the ATF dipstick (then check using either the HOT or COLD markings on the ATF dipstick, depending on your car's temp). Leaving the engine ON for ATF level checking is something a lot of people don't know (myself included until about 2 years ago until I bought a service manual and read it thoroughly).

The ATF checking procedure is different than for engine oil, which you turn off your car for. Nonehteless, if your car is off when you pull out the ATF dipstick, it will be higher than it should be.

FYI, I change my ATF 2x a year, basically every other oil change (but at the minimum, at least once year, depending on how I feel--I drive 15K miles a year). It's only $8 in parts per ATF drain and refill, so it's no big deal for me.
