Is Valvoline Restore & Protect a Thing?
Has anyone seen the ads on the new Valvoline Restore & Protect motor oil? Do you think that the claims on deposit removal and protection on future deposits are hyped, just a bit?

But the TV ads look so convincing. Surely, some third party lab will do some testing of this new oil to see if it lives up to the hype.

I saw a jug of Distilled Water with the following labels: "Pure" and "Salt Free".
Given that distilled water is H2O, I wonder how they made it "pure" and "salt free" after distilling it?!! Any hype is ok to sell a product!! |

I am willing to try it. Lubrication technology from the big brands are always improving and less likely to be snake oil than those small additives you find in auto stores. Wasnt that long ago I would have laughed at 0w-8 oil but now its in lots of Toyota's.

I saw it in a NAPA today and wondered about it too. Pretty appealing to higher mileage car owners. Just seems like it's too new for anyone to really have some experience with it to share though. I thought about trying it my next oil change, just bought a '14 ES350 with 141k miles but it's been consistently serviced at the same Lexus dealership it was purchased from every 5-10k miles- don't think people with similar service history as me would really see any benefit.

Toyota has moved to 0w-8 I am sure people will use whatever they want not trusting the low viscosity. People still use 5w-30 in their 0w-20 cars.
