Default Re-manufatured alternator

Does anyone know where I can pick up a re-manufactured alternator from? Online or anywhere in Jersey? Cause the prices that I'm getting are CRAZY!!!!!!

Thanks,

Julian

have you tried AutoZone? They usually come with 1 year or LT warranty.

Ok Autozone had one for 240 bucks. The core value is 85 bucks. Now is the 240 before or after the return of thecore? Also so far the best price I've gotten was from my mechanic. $229.00 for the alternator, $269.00 for the p/s pump and $30 bucks for the serp. belt and $695.00 for the job parts and labor. Is that a good price?

$240 for the alt. $85 for the core = $325 goes on Autozone's counter. You get the alt.
Bring in the old one, they credit you back $85, you only paid the $240 in the end.

Not bad price for the whole kit and kaboodle. If you ain't sure in doing yourself. Have your mechanic do it.

Default don't do it

I've had NOTHING but bad luck with remanufacturered electronics. I've installed two that lasted a week and we swap my friends alternator every year. If you plan to sell the car great, otherwise save your money and just get a new one from a discount Toyota/Lexus wholesaler. Our big joke is, good thing it has a warranty, because you'll be using it ALOT!

Toy4two, I feel you--I've also had to use the warranty...i guess it comes down to the difficulty of the job (if you're doing it yourself) and how much time it will take. If I can get a starter for 1/2 the price, I don't think I would have a problem changing it once a year, provided that it's a simple install that wouldn't take more than a couple of hours. To each their own though.

For what car do you need an alternator for? I have a good used one-48k miles-that is just sitting there. Fits 98 and up GS and LS models. Bench tested-works great. Other options is to have yours rebuilt at a local start/alternator shop. On alternators, the brushes are changed and everything else is cleaned. They "might" replace the regulator though at times they use non-standard components with different amperage.

I had my alternator replaced on 1990 LS400 at Sears three years ago. Price at that time was $170 plus $80 to install. Alternator is still working fine.

I, too, have nothing but bad luck w/ remanufactured parts from auto parts stores. The ones I've bought all have had lifetime warranties, and they'd go out on me after about a year, only to replace them again. However, I once bought a genuine Nissan remanufactured starter from the Nissan dealer for my previous '95 Maxima and it worked like a charm, and I saved about 50% over a new part. So, from my experience at least, I'd stick w/ the dealer (find one that provides a discount) and if you get a remanufactured part, you should be fine. Go with a remanufactured part from a parts stores (Schucks, Autozone, Pepboys, etc.), and you might be getting substandard parts with lifetime warranties that you'll be using annually. Save the headaches and get the parts that will work from the start, and will last you.
