Default Tarnished Door Sill Plate

All four of my door sill plates in my 2015 LX look tarnished. Is this normal? Does anyone have experience with making them look new again? I don't know if they are stainless steel, aluminum, or some other type and didn't want to try to use anything that would permanently damage it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Sill plates are also referred to as "scuff plates" for a reason. They not only discolor or tarnish, depending on the metal or plastic used, but they get relatively deep scrapes and gouges from dirty and sandy shoes being dragged over them.

My experience is that it these plates are pretty inexpensive, and also that there are aftermarket ones available made from things such as carbon fiber. Removal and replacement is typically quite easy. To do a proper polishing job on the metal ones requires they be removed anyway.

I suggest you do a simple goolge search using the words "door sill club lexus" and read some of the threads that have appeared here before that wll answer your question.

This is made out of stainless steel. I polished ours with a buffer using a Meguiar M105 Glaze Ultra-Cut Compound. To get the graining back, used a Scotch bright (blue or green). Make sure to tape up the Lexus and plastic strip.
