Default LX 570: Access 3rd row with 2 car seats?

Hello all,

We are looking to trade our RX to a bigger LX 570 for more space. With two toddler car seats fastened to the 2nd row seats, is the 3rd row accessible without removing one of car seats? Thanks.

Unfortunately not. You'd have to use the non-latch seats in the 2nd row. We occasionally have 2 in the middle row and 1 or 2 in the rear, but it's really not ideal IMHO. If I were you, I'd search for something with captains chairs in the middle and a 3rd row. Maybe other makes offer this setup other than a minivan.

The only vehicle made by Toyota that I know about in which the 3rd row can be accessed without removing child seats from the second row is the Sienna with the 2nd row "long slide" feature that allows sliding the 2nd row seats forward until they touch the driver and front passenger seats. It is also possible to slip between the 2nd row seats to get to the 3rd row if one is not too porky.

Our 2014 Sienna Limited has latch anchors in each of the 2nd row ottoman captain chairs and latch anchors for one car seat in the 3rd row. The 2015-up Sienna has latch anchors for two car seats in the 3rd row. Exterior dimensions of the Sienna and LX570 are similar, e.g. 200.6 and 200.1 inches in length.

One of the attached photos of our Sienna Limited shows the 2nd row seat tracks of the long slide feature. The top trim Sienna is quite Lexus-like and it's long 119+ inch wheelbase provides a noticeably smoother highway ride than that of the RX which I've considered to be rather choppy.

Thank you both for your help. We want to avoid going the minivan route, but I know it's the best option for practicality for us with two little toddlers (3 and 1). But my heart desires a 2015 LX 570.

At least have your brain tell your heart to find a 2015 LX 570 that has the optional automatic emergency braking PCS (Pre-Collision/Pre-Crash System) which became standard in TSS-P on the 2016 LX 570. Keep those toddlers safe.

If you only need one of the third row seats, and the person riding back there is a kid, you can keep the other seat folded up and gain access through the hatch.

Otherwise it's hard to get back there with two car seats. We're impatiently waiting for our oldest to be big enough to move from his convertible seat to a booster so he can ride in the third row. The lack of top tether anchors in the outboard third row positions is IMO the most boneheaded design fail on the LX.

I just sold my 2013 GX and traded in for a 2015 LX. We have twins age 5 and the GX car seats worked in row 2 and we could use the third row of seats at the same time.

I meant to also say that our twins started in an RX from the hospital until they were 1.5 years. We moved to the GX so an adult could fit I. The second d seat wit them. The GX is great. The only reason we moved to the LX is because I wanted the design, but was very happy with the GX functionality.

The OP asked if people can get into the 3rd row while car seats are already installed in the 2nd row seats. Are you doing that?

I currently have 2 car seats in the second row of our 2016 LX and can fold the right seat for access to 3rd row or for transporting our 2 road bikes with us. I just have to wiggle the car seat in the middle a bit when folding the seat.
The car seats are peg perego viago convertible and a clek fllo. If I had the Clek Fllo in the middle then I believe I won’t need to wiggle it as it is thinner than the Viago.

Yes we use the third row thru the back door. The car seats stay in the 2nd row and don’t come out.

Here are two pics with both car seats in the middle row and bikes in the back.
