Default Rear hatch not closing

Hey all.
I've had my 08 RX350 for a few years now, and it's been nothing but good news. Last night, while unloading my trunk, I realized it wouldn't close. It would go about half-way as normal, but suddenly give me so much resistance that I was afraid of breaking it. I pushed the button to auto-close and it didn't respond. The key fob registered with a red light. I read the owners manual and couldn't find an answer, removed the gas shocks to see if they were the problem but to no avail, and so now I have the hatch secured down with twine and a blanket to keep out debris.
Has anyone else ever experienced this? I think it's the electric motor and it came off the track, but I know so little about this that I'm just taking wild guesses.

Maybe the "switch" on the driver's side panel near the knee area is "turned off"? But it would still be able to close manually without all that resistance. I'm thinking you maybe right, it is off it's tracks? Or maybe needs reprogramming? Or the motor inside just died?
