2015 vs 2016 lx
I am thinking about purchasing a 2015 or 2016 lx.
I am just wondering how different they are. I know that in 2016, there is a new eight speed transmission, but mpg did not change at all.

in 2016, Toyota introduced the snowplow grill...imo ugly, a very radical change for the 200 series, and already looking dated. Unlike the 80 and 100 series, I doubt it will still look good 10 years from now.

Mechanical underpinning remains similar (my 16 LX I think hunts for gears more often compared to the 15's 6-speed). However we like the interior of the 16 better including some of the newer safety features (360 degree camera!) - there is about a ~$15k price difference I think between a 15 and 16 LX. Depends what is important to you?

there is a TSB and ECU reprogramming to resolving the low speed gear hunting issue for 2016 LX. I had dealer applied change and it is much better now. 2016 is consider a mid-term update, other than the redesign exterior and interior, the major changes are 8 speed transmission, whole suit of safety features includes pre-collision with pedestrians detection, Lane departure assist, HUD, etc.

Both are great. But imo 2016+ is definitely the way to go. There are too many changes vs the older models.
The interior is totally new with 12.3” screen, beautiful cabernet interior color option, nicer steering wheel with paddle shifters, and an analog watch!
The main feature with the exterior, other than being able to plow snow!, is actually the full LED headlights with auto dim feature.
Better safety features such blind spot and cross traffic alert.
On mine, the 8 speed transmission is great and very smooth, some needed a software update to resolve a hesitation issue between first and second gear changes.
So you can see that I love it and enjoy driving it every day. And regarding the design, I actually like the more revolutionary design and lexus design language for their new cars.

Both high quality, if you want to spend the extra $$ and can't find a low mileage "15" go newer. I never even considered the "16"-"17" models because of the exterior, but that's me. If I could of bought a new 1995 FZJ80 Landcruiser that's what I would of bought

See I started down that path (I was looking at a 08-10 LC) but finding things at crazy miles for $25k, I bumped it up to $30k...then $40k....then found a CPO 14 for $48k that got me looking at 15's and I rationalized to myself for just "a little more" I could get a 16 and ended up getting a 16!

Wife is thrilled, though now that I think about it, we tripled our budget =) but this will be the forever car of hers! Getting a clear bra installed on it now...the 1 thing she is contemplating on is the ride on the 21' rims, checking out a Toyota 18 (TRD) or 20 inch Tundra set of rims to see if they ride better. That said, for (I think) a minimal price difference, the 16 (or newer) is going to be a better mid-long term buy than the 15. I'm seeing 16's in the low $70s and 17's in the high $70s....I heard someone picked up one of the new left-over 2017's (in Jan 2018) for $18k off MSRP which would make it about $80k..
