2017 or 2018
I am in market for a SUV for my wife . We need 6000 lbs vehicle to get tax incentive as this would be used as business vehicle. Looking at the weight of LX, it is right at 6000lbs, so my first question is do this vehicle qualify for the incentives. Has any member used this vehicle as business vehicle and claimed tax rebates. When I started getting the quotes, I never looked at the weight. I assumed that it is well over 6000lbs. If it does not meet the criteria, then I would be considering other options.
As I was getting quotes, so far the best I have received is 90k for 98.6k msrp for 2018. Also I received a quote of 81.3k for brand new 2017 with msrp of 99k, and 78k for 2017 with msrp of 96.4k. That's about 18k discount for a new 2017LX.
So between these two model years, is 2018 worth extra 9k? Are these good prices or I need to look around for a better deal?
I have to make a quick decision because to get tax incentives, purchase has to be made in 2017.
Thanks

Per my CPA, the determination is not by its curb weight (which is 6000 lbs) but by its GVCW (Gross vehicle combination weight) which is about 7500 lbs. Basically the max weight of the car fully loaded (GVCW) is what qualifies a vehicle for the better business write-offs.
I just purchased a 2017 LX for $80,400 and sticker on it was $98,200. So an $18k discount on a 2017 is about right. Here in southern California, dealers are willing to sell the 2018 LX at 12K off sticker. (One dealer quoted me 10K off and another 12K off).
Since there were no changes made to the 2018 LX (compared to the 2017), a 6K difference for me was worth getting the 2017. If the difference is 4K or less, I would go for the 2018. Otherwise, i'd chose the 2017.

Same logic I would use.

Go back a few years and research the price difference between year models. I suspect it’s closer to 7500 per year. Find some 5-6 year old that are essentially the same and compare.

Thanks guys for all the input. We bought 2017 LX. The sticker MSRP was $100 plus as it had dealer installed clear film on the hood, glass breakage sensors and cross bars. We got it for $77200 plus TT&T. There was no document fee. The total OTD was around $82.4
So for a new 2017, almost 23k below the MSRP seems pretty good to us.
I refused the extra warranty as they were not coming down on the price. What do you guys suggest do we need it or take the chance as Lexus Vehicles ae extremely reliable?

Congrats, that is a great price, I cannot get such price in Nevada and there are no 2017 left overs, I was going to buy used 2017 with 11k miles for the same price but changed my mind, glad did so.

Wow great deal!! You don’t need an extended warranty on a Lexus. But if you want one do a search there is a guy in kanas at a Lexus dealer that sells them dirt cheap. Enjoy your new ride.

Mine the same color. I love the grey with black, very classy. I live in Ponte Vedra Beach. Did you buy it at Fields?

Bought if from Orlando. This is my third Lexus in last three years all bought at the same dealership. They were called Lexus of Orlando, recently changed to Lexus of Winter Park. Good thing is that they don't charge document fee. So you save somewhere between 500 to 1000 depending on what your dealer charge. I am in St John's. Not far from you.
