I could not make myself pull the trigger on a newer 2010+ gx460, no matter how many times I drove them the past three months. I found a used 2010 LX570 today and didn't hesitate when I saw it.

Anyone else feel like the GX460 was just not the same level as the GX470 ?

I test drove the GX460 before purchasing my 2013 LX 570. The moment I sat on the driver seat of GX I felt crunched and their third row seat is for 4 year old and thats it, even a 10 year old cannot fit in the third row seats of GX.

You get more value on purchasing LX over GX, one extra seat in very comfortable 3rd row. And top-notch interior quality in LX for the additional 3 miles MPG compromise.

I had a 2006 GX that I drove into the ground and was subsequently totaled by a drunk driver back in March. The feel of the GX is great- it's smaller, more nimble and fun offroad, esp for a stock vehicle. When I bought my 2015 LX, there was simply no comparison. The LX commands respect and authority on the road (here in CO cruising through mtns) esp with the bumpers/mods I have done to mine. I am still not sure why there is a 3rd row in the GX as it really has no point lol. Alas, the fit/finish/quality on the LX is far superior to the GX, but should be given the price point.

LX has more efficient V8. Redesign of GX is long over due, IMO. The swing out tail gate was also a negative specially for my better half.

I had a 2007 GX 470, 2011 GX 460, and 2015 GX460 before I upgraded to 2017 LX primarily wider 2nd row seat and upgraded electronics etc.
Thought the 2 460’s were better than 470.
Love the LX just needs a bigger gas tank. Drive frequent Bhm to Shreveport trips to visit grandkids and about 1 and 2/3 tank each way. My wife’s 2017 LS can do the trip (430 mi) on 1 tank.

+1 this thing needs a much bigger tank. In other countries the Land Cruiser gets 36.5 gallons of capacity, no reason we shouldn't get that here too.

I echo a bigger gas tank is needed. I am not sure but think it has to do with the car's weight. They don't want it to exceed 6000 lbs curb weight, otherwise its more taxes. (So i've heard)

Sounds like you need a contact in the ME somewhere. Tanks are available from Australia but pricey for shipping on a one by one basis. Not sure if the JDM has a larger tank, but might be worth checking out.

I too have driven the GX 460 several time trying to warm up to it. IMO, it does NOT feel like a LEXUS. It would be right at home within the Nissan/Infiniti line. To me, the GX 470 is the Goldilocks Lexus, and I've driven almost all of them, most of them numerous times.

I looked at several models of the GX 470 and a few of the 460. I am a big guy at 6'4" and it seems that I could not find a comfortable seating position, especially in the 470 - little better it seems in the 460. I was looking for something to take off road (lightly) for camping etc and wanted to like the GX for its slightly smaller size, slightly better MPG etc, but ultimately found a '09 LX 570 with 120K on it and it was much more comfortable for me. Loving it so far. Rides great, in great condition. Trying not to look at the MPG - yikes. Visiting the pump more often! Was able to take it camping last weekend and slept in the back on air mattress. Everything that I want in a vehicle - other than MPG, but there must be some compromise, right?

Necro thread, forgot I even posted to. The GX was designed for countries where you drive on the left, not right side of the road...I never understood the logic as to why you'd want one in countries where you drive toward the right...you've got to walk around the back door.

"Slightly smaller size" makes a major difference if/when you're camping well away from civilization for a week or 2. MPG is the last thing I worry about.

If you can find ethanol-free gasoline to use for the trip, you can extend your range considerably. My local station has added it at the same price as ethanol gas mix, and I have found a range increase from around 290 miles per fill-up to almost 350 miles in my typical driving pattern. My MPG is now over 17, primarily driving in town.

Disclaimer: "Town" where I drive is rural farm country. There are only 2 traffic lights between my house and the local shopping hub of Tractor Supply, BiLo grocery, and Kangaroo gas 15 miles away. The LX has been on an interstate highway once in the past 3 years.

I've been using ethanol-free from Sinclair or Chevron, and any variety from 89 to 91 octane, depending on where I am. I normally do not record mpg...but wife and I took ~ a 250 mile round trip to our favorite camping area. We wanted to see if any damage was done due to fire(s) this past summer.

Speeds were up to 70 on the freeway, 40-50 on a 2-lane mountain road, and then 10-30 on the dirt road going from ID-21 to the campsite. I normally drive in the "PWR" mode and shift manually...SOP for mountains driving. I checked mpg after a fill up the next day and saw 17 mpg overall...I was blown away.

I went to no ethanol simply to avoid the eventual disintegration of every bit of rubber in the fuel system. I also live in "rural farm country", so there's a multitude of 2 and 4-cycle equipment all over. I discovered leaving ethanol gas over the winter could result in fuel lines that look like Jello in the spring, even with fuel stabilizer added...a major PITA.
