Which year LX would be best for me?
Shopping for a new SUV / tow vehicle - will also be my daily driver. I drag my boat a lot, around 5-6K miles a year (yes I fish a LOT) I was almost sold on the new GX but I just can't get over the swing out rear hatch door plus I just don't think it will make a good tow vehicle. Now here is my dilemma. I can't afford a newer 16' or 17' LX at this time. I can afford a used/certified 14' or 15' though. Budget is in the 60K range. I really do like the more aggressive look though on the newer model and I like the fact it has paddle shifters, but reading about the new 8 speed transmission issues with response time and lack of finding the right gear, I'm starting to wonder if the older 6 speed would tow better (I wish I could tow my boat on a test drive lol). In theory, the 8-speed tranny should tow better but after reading about these issues it's discouraging.
I do not need a new vehicle now......so I guess my question is should I settle for a 14 or 15 LX or wait another year for the updated 16s to come down in price a bit?

Hard to go wrong with a used LX that is certified. One of the most dependable vehicles on the road!
good luck and I hope you enjoy.

I owned a 15 LX, It dose not have paddle shifters. I love my 17 LX. Have you considered leasing a 16 or 17 LX. If you can afford to purchase a 15 the lease on a 16 would be the same or less. And yes Lexus does lease there CPO vehicles and you get unlimited mileage warranty and 2 years of free maintenance.

If you go fishing a lot, I'd get a 15', save some money, and don't have to worry so much if it happens to stink up once in awhile. I haven't had any issue with the 8 speed. Where are you reading that the 8 speed is problematic? May be when I drive, I'm deliberate if I go fast or slow, and even in traffic, the tranny seems to be working fine for me.

I bet the paddle shifters would come in handy if this became an issue. I'm actually leaning towards waiting till next year for the 16' to drop in price. I'm sure I will be happy in a 15' but I will prob be wishing I had the 16'.

Hey BT28, I've been able to find CPO 2013-2014's in the $50s here in the Dallas area and mileage does not scare me at all on these LX units. Alternatively you could score a great deal on a 13-14 Sequoia Platinum (air suspension on the rear) with the same powertrain as your Tundra in the $40s as well with 30k-ish miles.
Personally anything 2013+ is good enough for me, my wife loves the features of the 2016 LX's though. Lowest 2016 LX I found was ~$76k for around 22k miles....Alternatively have you explored a pre-owned 2016 Landcruiser? A lot of the similar new features (adaptive cruise, lane departure) as the 2016 LX and you can score these in the mid $60s
