Default What happened to dust deflector?

Traveling on a dirt road on my way fishing and noticed my rear window getting real dusty and wondering why the rear dust deflector wasn't shooting air down over window and keeping it dust free...no dust deflector, just a rear spoiler! All my other 100 series LC's and LX's have had the rear dust deflector that looked like a rear spoiler and keep rear window pretty much dust free. Why would engineering change this, are these vehicles supposed to stay on pavement? Is there an after market dust deflector? Thanks for the replys....Flats

I have owned just about every year LX570 from the first and there has never been a "dust deflector," like you describe it on, an LX. In fact not even on my LX470 units had one. They have all had the same type spoiler.

Which year LX did you have an air deflector?

It's still there on all LX570s, just smaller.

Have you tried waxing/polishing the window to see if that helps dust not stick as easily?

Yes, my 2010 LX does have a spoiler and the air just goes over the top of the spoiler, no opening between roof and spoiler. The 100 series had the opening at the top and deflected the air down over the back window and keep the dust down.

I see. My old 2000 LX470 back then did not have this option. One time we were out in extended open country dirt road in the desert in and near Yellow Stone National Park.
We drove fast to be the first of the pack and still we kicked up lots of dried dirt and our back window (really the SUV ) was coveted in dried dirt.

That's a sweet hundy. Spoiler looks like 2nd iteration which started, iirc, in 2003. My '01 has the first design, a true spoiler with no end pieces...just a wing supported by two mounts.

See above.

100 series spoilers (aka wings, dust deflectors, etc.) especially the early versions, definitely keep dust off the window better than the things with no slots...not sure why they're even added to the trucks as they serve no purpose and certainly don't improve the styling.

With a squared-off rear end, as the truck goes through the air the rear creates a vacuum. That vacuum does a perfect job of sucking crap back on the window.

Google "Kamm effect" for more info.

I stand corrected but have never seen such a deflector and and I have owned multiple 470 and 570 units. None had this opening, not a single one.
