Default Removing 'cool box' console cooler???'s

I have an appointment with my closest Lexus dealer to remove the 3rd row sears from my 570, and I am wondering if any of you folks have had the cooler box removed to make your center console a regular console--is it even possible. These two features are pretty useless IMO especially with the 3rd row seats not being removable! I would undertake the cooler removal myself if it's somewhat straightforward--looking for feedback and info on this topic.
Thanks in advance--Don

If you don't turn it on it won't cool.

You dealer has agreed to remove the third row and replace the cooler with a regular console?

I could just imagine the look on my service reps face as I asked him to do the same

your car and your choice but why don't you just keep the power button 'off ' on the cool box and use it as a regular console.

you can also add a Rubbermade tray that can fit perfectly on the ledge just below top opening for holding smaller items. There is still room to put your hand past to tray to get items out of the bottom of the console. The tray size I use is 3 x 9.

Anyway, good luck with the choices you made. My dealer said he would remove the 3rd row at no charge if and when I waned. At this point- no big deal to leave them in there.

Greg, my dealer has agreed to the removal of the third row seats, but unlike drich, they want to charge me $260....they haven't given me any feedback yet on the 'coolbox' and yes I have considered just leaving it off, and using it for storage of my items anyway, I just hate useless stuff cluttering up my vehicle. I appreciate the tip on the Rubbermaid tray, I may attempt to obtain a tray like that.

Thanks--Don

I have always wished that Lexus would have made the seats removable in the 570 like they were in my LX470 units. I guess that the 3rd row has not got in my way bad enough to want to remove them. As far as the cooler, I use this as a glove box and never use the cool function as the Glock likes it warmer.

I would love to see the rubbermaid tray that fits on top if someone can image it and tell me where it can be purchased.

Anyway it has a model number on the Rubbermaid tray? A picture if you do not?

Thanks

Ok guys, I'm trying to do this with my phone. Much easier on a desktop but here goes. I did put a 1 1/2 stick on felt pad on each end for a better fit. There are other sizes of trays but the way the cool box is shaped this works the best fot me. You can lift it out or slide your had behind it, depending on what you're trying to get out. I think the pics are self explanatory but if you have questions let me know. I got the tray from Walmart for less than $2.00

Hope this helps you

I just bought 2008 lx570 and this one did not have cool box and i really would have liked it in texas heat. How about we switch the center consoles, mine is without cool box and has plenty of space inside with deep top tray. Lemme know if interested for a swap.

Yep, sure would like to be able to remove the third row seats. Also miss the ability to open the back windows that I had on my 470. I often opened the rear windows for ventilation.

If you consider removing a couple of pesky A/C lines as "straightforward", go for it.

Probably too late, as this thread was last active a couple of years ago... but in case anyone else out there wants to multipurpose/optimize their cool box space, it seems there is possibly a more elegant solution:
