Default Service schedule for LX570

Hi all,

I find it bothering to discover that in my area (GCC) the LX is services every 10,000 km which is about 6,200 mi whereas in US lexus website I found it should be done in 8,000 km which is about 5,000 mi!!!

I owned my 2010 lx now for over a year now and I continuously noticed before the vehicle is due for service, the engine sound is slightly louder which made me question the service duration

Now, what do you think the cause of this difference in service duration between GCC & US markets!!? And are there any implications of this given the fact all oils and parts are the same ... We really need to hear a reply from Lexus itself on this

Has always been 5000 miles in the US even though they do not change the synthetic oil but every 10,000 miles.

Why the difference I do not know but if Mercedes can do it every 10K, Lexus should be able to do so too.

Actually in the USA it calls for synthetic 0w20 and filter change every 5k miles for my 2011 per the owners manual. Lexus changed this to 10k miles in 2013. No change in the engine. Lexus customer support stated that I could use this 10k mile interval "now" with my 2011. I think it's a marketing move by Lexus to lower maintance cost. I think I will stick with 5-6k mile changes. As long as your doing it every 10k miles with synthetic 0w20 oil, you should be OK.

I can not see Lexus wanting to decrease the cost on maintenance.

That's what the dealer master tech told me also a salesman. Has to do with the fact that all the Lexus competitors go at least 10k miles between changes. Just wondering why do you think they changed it?? Any insight would be great?

Well I could see there is as well difference in 08-12 & 13-15 lx service schedule .. it could be related to type of oil but again what about filter and other stuff .. same goes for major service

I have bad feeling about this especially there is no official write up from Lexus itself on this subject

In the USA Lexus has used synthetic 0W20 since the LX570 came out in 2008 model year, no changes in oil or filter just in change interval. Plus no change in the engine.

I have no idea but Lexus very much wants to keep it's service department busy. From what I understand service and used car sales are a big cash producer for the dealer. The last thing they would want to do is have us visit less frequently though I do see the pressure from the competition to go to the 10K visits.

Lexus does so little on the between 5K visits that if you are willing to fill up your own washer fluid and check the oil, you would likely good.

I think your right they still have you come in every 5k but on that one all they do is check things out and give you that "free" car wash. That ones the real money maker. I have Lexus do my changes but I do them every 5k miles and I never do the big services I do all the big services "work items" before they are due on individual services. Like brake fluid change, brake pads, driveline retorque and lube, transfer case fluid service, differential fluid service. I always have them doing something that is real work, plus I have them check fluids. I do my own battery fluid refill, doubt they ever do that anyway. I do my own air filter. I get free rotation and balance from discount tire. I am retired and ****, but I want my LX over maintained not under maintained. I think when someone just takes their LX in for say a 60k service they are over charged and under served. I end up paying less at the dealership and I get more real service and attention paid to my LX. I realize that owners with a job don't have time for this.

Long ago I might have done the above but I have no desire to do the major service on my LX. The cost of these major services are high but not near to the point that I would consider doing it all myself.

I did top off the washer fluid the other day!

Don't think Lexus specifies synthetic oils for MY 2011. One one visit the tech mistakenly installed synthetic and the service writer took the charge off because they weren't supposed to use synthetic. Writer told me the change over was 2012. I do service at 5,000 like they recommend.

My 2011 owners manual calls for 0w20 which is synthetic. Says if you use 5w20 Dino, because synthetic not available to change back to 0w20 within 5k miles. Mine has a 9/11 build date, 1/1/12 they were building 2013's that say the same thing in their owners manuals. Since the 2011 calls for 5k mile oil/filer changes they could use the 5w20, which would not cause a problem if changed as recommended. I seems odd that a dealer would change 2008-2011's with dino and 2013-2015 with synthetic. Because they charge one price for oil/filter changes at my Lexus dealership. But anything is possible so I guess some dealers could have both options, sounds like yours did.

I would think your engine would last just as long with Dino if you follow the recommended change interval. I use Synthetic and use the dino change interval but I'm old and conservative.
