LX 570 Windshield Breakage
I have followed this forum for 3-4 years. As background information I purchased new a 2008 LX570. I owned it for 2 years, and replaced it with a 2010 LX570 shortly after they came out. My concern is I replaced the windshield 3 times on the 08, and just got the windshield broken on the 2010. That is 4 windshields in 3 1/2 years. I spoke with the dealer after the second broken windshield, but they said Lexus has not had a problem with the LX570 having stress fractures or excessive windshield repairs.
What is your experience? Does Lexus in fact have a problem they are not admitting?
Thank you for your response, John

I've had my 2010 LX570 for over a year now and it never cracked. Knock on wood. I've had 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser for 13 years now and it never cracked. Sorry to hear your mishaps.

I think I have had 2 stress cracks. 2 were definitely where there was a hit by a stone but within 15 minutes I heard a loud pop, sort of like a glass dish put in a microwave oven when it is not microwave safe, and then a crack progressed rapidly.

After 11 new Lexus for my wife & I, 3 of these were LX's, only the last 2 LX's have had windshield cracks. My 'o9, and after last month's trip to New Mexico, my '11 LX570 have both had broken windshields. I think they were from rocks hitting them, not stress.

Sid,
No doubt I think a stone bruise is a factor, but it appears to me the windshield goes ahead and develops a crack easier than other vehicles. You may be a good example, with all of the other Lexus you have owned. It is my understanding the windshield has 3 layers of glass. I wonder if each layer is thinner possibly causing the problem?

I just bought my 11 LX570 and love it. While Paul Williamsen was here with the LFA he was telling me little bits of interesting facts about the 570, one of which was that the LX570 uses a windshield that is slightly different, with one more layer between the glass to help deaden the sound. Said the same technology is used in the LS. I'm wondering if there is a relationship
