Tires - I can't find tires.

So I need replacement tires for my 2018 LX (21"). Cannot find the original Dunlops anywhere and can't find the alternative Yokohama tires anywhere. I need all season tires since I live in the midwest so I just can't default to a summer tire. Any thoughts?

What is your tire size?

jsch222 Mar 27, 2022 06:43 PM

One of our close friends had this exact issue. He had to go with Toyo Open Country H/T II

Only tire available at the local tire shop. Sadly I think this situation is going to get worse before it gets better.

I have a CPO 2018 LX570.
It came with new Yokohama Geolander H/T G056 tires
they are 285/50R20 112V. they call them "all season"

we had a fairly bad winter this year, and it handled pretty well. there was only one time on a highway i was driving at 50 MPH, because at higher speeds they were getting a little hinky. the good thing, they have very low road noise on a dry road.

i know you said 21". not sure why i have 20" wheels...but that is what i have

it LOOKS LIKE Tire Rack has your 21" size in stock for an LX570. but bring your wallet!

$1400 + tax is not a big deal...

but moving to 18" wheels gives you a better ride, cheaper price, less noise, and more comfort on the road.

In case you are interested, I have a set of 5 Dunlops on OEM 21” rims that only have a few thousand miles which came on my 2017 CPO.

I have had these tires on order from Tire Rack since December. They keep pushing out the availability date. Now it's all the way to May. Once that dates gets closer, they'll push it out further. Hell, I'd settle for the original Dunlops if I could find them.

thinking thru your post, i decided to get a spare unmounted tire from tire rack for my 20" rim. i ordered it this morning, and it is already shipped by UPS ground this afternoon.
Odd that your order is hung up. when i placed my order, i saw they only had 3 of my tire in stock, so that prodded me to get off my azz and do something about it

but yeah, i am seeing online about ALL SORTS of reports of tire shortages. IH8MUD forum is reporting all sorts of off road tire shortages too.

IF YOU NEED TIRES, DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE!!!!

I think the 21" tires are harder to find - probably because it is a bit of an unusual size. The 20" size is probably much more common.

biff44 Mar 28, 2022 05:07 PM

i guess i am lucky!

i do know the bigger tires are harder to keep in balance....so did not really want a 21"

biff44 Mar 31, 2022 10:14 AM

OP, did you ever find four tires?

i got that 20" one delivered yesterday! i am all set now.

i guess you could find some 20" rims somewhere......

Lerxst Mar 31, 2022 04:03 PM

Discount Tire found four Toyo Open Country H/T II 21" tires and they are being shipped from Denver to St. Louis. The Toyo tire wasn't my first choice, but I've since read some good things about the Toyo tires. At least I'll finally get some fresh rubber on the LX.

There is a "Truck tire" shortage right now regardless of size. Prices for Yoko's are up 40% from last year. (We had 4 10% bumps so far & another coming soon - next month?) I'm riding my stuff till the cords are hanging out, this is crazy LOL.

Probably not the 'best price' route but what about getting tires from the Lexus dealership? They usually have the tires in stock. Sometimes they run buy 3 get 4th for $1 promo (which was when I got my current set a few years back for 8xx installed) - surprisingly about 44k miles, tires tread still at 7/32nds!!

jsch222 Apr 4, 2022 05:34 AM

@Lerxst did you get these installed? If so, initial thoughts?
