Hi Guys

I am considering have a full-size truck as my secondary car

I've always appreciated Toyota products especially LC series.
Since I am in Toronto and there is no LC in the Canadian market, I can only look into GX/LX.

At first I considered to get a 2013/14 pre-owned LX, but it seems that there weren't many inventories around the city, usually a truck with 50k kilometers(35k miles roughly) listing with prices around 75k CAD and there is a 13% HST, so the roughly otd price may be around 90k. Not sure if this is a reasonable price for I've just been to Canada for no more than two years.

I can afford leasing a brand new one but the waiting period is 6-9 months according to the dealer here and the out-door price for such a truck would be a bit more than 120k CAD. The local dealer didn't even have a truck to test drive since they are all sold out, and according to the sales, "people come to here just to order, they know what they want." I wonder whether the waiting period and the budget gap can be justified by the difference between new gen LX and the last gen.

From what I heard, the mechanical system, the drive train, and engine they all stay the same except for the 8-speed gear box. Not sure if this is accurate information though.(if not, PLEASE CORRECT ME FOR I WOULD LOVE TO GET MORE INFOMATION ON THIS)

And I'm not sure about last generation's package information in Canada since it is not available on Lexus Canada website anymore.

The point is I just would like to make sure if I am buying a pre-owned one, I can have access to its off-road pkg( if there is any) and enjoy its legendary capability of driving under rough environment and its quality and reliability. If what I want is unavailable from the pre-owned market, then I may have to choose to lease new one, sit and wait.

Of course, if I order a new one there will be no problem for the Canadian LX570 2016 is already fully loaded.

With that being said, I also checked out the current generation GX. For Canadian 2016 GX, I wonder is there any difference between LX and GX in term of suspension, differential locker and off-road capability. The 2016 GX Canadian do have an executive package including "multi-terrain select" and" 4 wheel crawl control". Not sure what does this mean to the truck. With this package, the GX will have a 78k CAD MSRP and a 90k CAD MSRP Outdoor price. I wonder do last Gen and this Gen LX already include those feature in its price, and I'm not sure if how the LX driving experience will be compared to GX since I have not got a chance to test drive LX in Canada yet.

Thanks a lot

2016 model finally got a blind spot monitor, it has a better adaptive cruise control (full speed range), better PCS (pedestrian detection), bird's-eye view camera system, great LED headlights (unfortunately not adaptive, cannot turn in the direction of the curve), head-up display, better navigation with a better display.
If you plan to use it off-road, you would have to replace standard 20" wheels (Canada, in USA most LXs are equipped with even worse 21" wheels) with 18" Land Cruiser wheels and tires (or 17" TRD wheels). You will also hate the front bumper which significantly decreases front approach angle.
I decided that the new features are worth it and purchased 2016 model. I replaced the wheels/tires but still hate the front bumper (I don't care about the design, the problem is the front approach angle).

btw I looked into the fuel tank, it turns out that North American LX570 have no sub-tank and therefore lose about 45 litres fuel capacity. (93 litres with the main fuel tank)
Does the fuel capacity arise any concern for you during your driving?
Thanks!

You realize you can fix the bumper by a quick call to Slee Off Road, or at least 3-4 other places making bumpers.

Coming from Suburbans with 35 gallon tanks, it takes getting used to. On road trips, I usually get a pee-stop request about the time I need gas. They are available in Australia...but shipping plus sourcing the lines and wiring and the internal subtank fuel gage makes it mucho $$$.

More discussions on subtanks in the 200 series forum on mud.

Drive them both. I did and while it was spacious enough and nice enough inside, plus cheaper, the GX vibrates constantly compared to the smooth ride of the LX. Anyone else drove both and care to share their experience?

The GX is cheaper.

The rear door is hinged on the wrong side for countries that drive to the right.

Iirc, the GX has 2/3 the storage space of the LX when seats are folded down.

5.7 engine not available with the GX. LX has a longer wheelbase, which contributes to a smoother ride.

Simply stated, it's a pimped-up 4-Runner; the LX is a pimped-up Land Cruiser. Apples and oranges...

Hard to even compare the GX with the LX.

Correct, it shares many components with the 4runner and it is essentially an upmarket Land Cruiser Prado (not sold in US):

The ride quality isn't due to the sidewall (decent sidewall on the GX) and is from not only the wheelbase - not sure if the one I drove had AHC or not, but the suspension has to be tuned stiffer as well based on my experience.

The Prado may be called a Land Cruiser, but that's where any similarity ends.

It's also a big difference that the LX can "raise" all 4 corners, not just the rear as in the GX - for clearance off road, you'll want all the help you can get so avoid body damage.
