I do not need to read the manual to clarify, I have no problem with the reserve system. The 4 gallons is still likely conservative.

 

Ok, I ran it to remaining miles " 5 " the pump shut off @ 19.4 gal. I put another 3 gal. So 22.4 gal. & the manual indicates the tank holds 24.6 gal . I'm confident @ last that with 0 miles remaining there's 2 gal. Remaining. A good thing to remember if it ever gets oh $h- - time.

 

Need to watch that! My wife's Montero said it had 11 miles DTE and it went 4 and crapped out!

I don't buy into that needle saying what it should as there are many conditions to say otherwise.

When the light comes on, time to hit the filling station period!

 

I am an old codger who was taught in my youth to never let the fuel gauge go below a quarter tank because the sediment that builds up over time in the tank will be drawn into the fuel system and cause major problems. I guess you cannot teach old dogs new tricks..

 

I went through this today actually. The distance read 9 miles until empty, and ended up putting in something just shy of 20 gallons.

 

That would mean you had about 4 gallons to spare.
