Default 2000 LX470 175k miles; original timing belt

Hey all. I'm looking at a one-owner LX470 with 175k on the odo. Owner says she never had the timing belt changed. Condition of the truck looks good in the pictures; I've ordered a pre-purchase inspection from Lemon Squad in the Cincinnati area.

Two questions:
- As long as the timing belt doesn't break, is there any negative to the engine's life brought about by running the timing belt way past its recommended life?
- How well do these trucks hold up when the preventative maintenance isn't kept up. Being that the timing belt hasn't been changed, I suspect that she wasn't much for preventative maintenance.

Thanks.

No negative effects on the engine's life if the TB is double the normal mileage, not to mention time interval. Just a tiny time bomb ticking away...

The 100 series does very well without PM per the book, but on balance they obviously do better when PM is performed on schedule.

Have you run the vin through the owners section of lexus.com? Do that and you'll see any and all services done at a Lexus dealer since the truck was first delivered.

Definitely change the AHC fluid, heater hose "T's", and trans fluid...not to mention both diffs and the transfer case.

Finally, since you're in a rust-belt area, make sure you get the truck on a lift, remove the 2 covers under the chassis, and look hard for rust. Finally, some great tips here on what to look for on a new 100 series. http://sleeoffroad.com/newbie/newbieUZJ100.htm and here https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/100-series-faq.30754/

What is the owner asking for the truck?

Good luck and hth.

Steve
