Default Mini VCI driving me crazy

G'day...longtime lurker and 1st time poster......after many years owning various Landcruisers (still have a 80 and 105) I just purchased a one owner 2004 LX470 and love it...everything now works (only problem was telescopic steering motor which I just replaced (hard job when your over 60!)....Anyway, I just purchased one of those knockoff Mini-VCI cables, J2534 with the latest firmware so I can have a look inside the cars ECU. Ive spent hours reading posts on this subject but just cannot seem to get it to work...It appears to communicate with the vehicle but ALL ECU's initially come up yellow (not recognised) and when I do a "health check" they all go white with an asterix * next to them which means they cannot communicate with the ECU (every single function is not available).....

I have tried multiple computers, I am now using Windows XP PRO 32 Bit, the VCI drivers are installed correctly, Ive tried several versions of Techstream all with the same results....Ive tried it with the LX470 in accessories position, with the car running etc etc.....and always the same.

The cable is communicating with the car and its LED is flashing but it just cannot seem to access any ECU at all, either I have a dud vci cable or I am doing something very wrong...any ideas? Thanks

Sorry I can't help but I'm having the exact problem with my 2003 SC430. I'll let you know if I find a solution. I've got the 2.0.4 firmware version but still trying to figure out if that makes a difference or not.
