'06 Purchase Opinions
Hello all,
I have been looking at 100 series LC/LX's for a a couple months now and I think I might of found one but I figured I would ask for opinions from the experts. It's an '06 with 135K miles, 3 owners, the second owner leased it and its been in Louisiana/Texas. I pulled the Lexus service records and they are all there, oil changes and all except a couple in the very beginning with the first owner. Highlighted repairs: secondary air injection pump replaced @ 135K, new brake pads and rotors resurfaced @ 133K, CV boots replaced @ 127K, valve cover gasket @ 114K, wheel bearings repacked and new tires at 108K, TB/WP & shocks on rear hatch at 91K.
Its in Houston (Im in Austin but with a 8.5 month pregnant wife so Im not leaving town) so I had a PPI done. The mechanic I used seemed to be good, I got a full detailed report and pictures. The exterior has a couple tiny scratches and rock chips up front and the interior looks good but has a scratch on the cup holder up front and glove box and the driver side leather looks to have a small crack. Frame looks good with a tiny bit of rust which he said for a '06 is normal. The TB/WP and most everything looks good. The AHC worked great. He did find a list of items that need fixing.I originally got them down to $19K but after the PPI I got them down more to $18.2K. Below is a list of what the mechanic found and here is a link to to the 2006 LX470.
-The hood struts need replacing
-Battery failed the load test and will need replacing
-Battery hold down is missing a bolt
-Air filter is dirty, needs replaced
-Valve cover gasket is leaking (Was replaced at 114K, maybe needs to be tightened?)
-Driver side front CV axle is leaking (Rebooted at 127K, may new clamp?)
-Passenger side head lamps are hazy, needs buffing (Dealer did this already)
-Steering wheel is off center and it needs alignment
I appreciate your input, thank you.

-The hood struts need replacing Around $100-ish online, and that includes both hood are rear lift gate which you may as well do while you're at it. Labor time required is about 20 minutes tops if it's the first time you've done the job.
-Battery failed the load test and will need replacing Iirc, it's a group 27 battery and it's at your local parts store. Another $100, maybe less.
-Battery hold down is missing a bolt 6mm or 8mm bolt, about an inch long. Check any hardware store, less than a buck.
-Air filter is dirty, needs replaced. $20 or so at your auto parts store.
-Valve cover gasket is leaking (Was replaced at 114K, maybe needs to be tightened?) Re-tighten, gently. Otherwise replace if retorqueing doesn't fix the issue.
-Driver side front CV axle is leaking (Rebooted at 127K, may new clamp?) New clamp and / or new boot.
-Passenger side head lamps are hazy, needs buffing (Dealer did this already) Half an hour of labor per side. I used a $35 3M polishing kit and a cordless drill.
-Steering wheel is off center and it needs alignment Possible misalignment of wheel due to misalignment of steering system?
I appreciate your input, thank you.

How long it's been since the AHC fluid has been changed? 60K or every 2 years is what I'd suggest. 2 cans of AHC fluid ONLY and half an hour labor.
Has AHC pressure been checked on all 4 corners of the truck. More info here (and especially on mud) from user "PADDO".
Have the heater hose T's toward the passenger side rear of the engine been replaced? If not, do it. They're known to crack and disintegrate after 100K. $7.50 each at the dealer, or use brass PEX T's from HD or similar. Again, more info on mud than here but they need replacement, imo.

I made a couple calls and got some information on the AHC. The dealership that did its 60K service didn't break those records down, they just showed it had the 60k mile service. It was a lease vehicle until 61K miles some I am assuming when its a lease, the dealership is taking care of it.
The 2nd dealership that serviced its 120K miles in February, I called them and she listed of the Auto Height Suspensions fluid being replaced. So I think we are good to go on that. I appreciate you suggestion to look into it.

Thanks, I feel like I did pretty well. When I had the LX delivered, I took it to Land Cruiser Specialist to have the repairs done that the mobile mechanic said it needed. LCS said that nothing was needed. The CV boot or gasket wasn't leaking, they were repaired at 127K miles in Feb '16, it was left over residue from when they were repaired then. The battery was fine, no issues, no need to be replaced. All fluids looked good. They just told me to drive it and enjoy. Thanks to the mobile mechanic, I was able to get it down another $1K, down to $18K from the dealer, so it worked out. They only issue was the leather panel on the drivers seat was worn, same with he arm rest and a spot on the door. I found a local leather place the replaced the leather on the seat and dyed it, refinished and dyed the arm rest and door (Since I don't use those) and paid $250 for it. The leather on the seat matches perfectly and is new. I also got new Hexomats, cause the carpet Lexus mats are worn. My next step is some K02's.
