Default Just purchased a 2002 LX470 ...

Been looking for an LX470 for about a year now.
Just couldn't pull the trigger on any I saw.
First drive in an LX470 was a 2000, 150K miles, average condition, wanted $12K.
That test drive though convinced me I wanted a nice LX470.
Offered $16K for a 2003 with 116K miles, nice, somebody beat me to it.
Offered $11K for a 2001 with 129K miles, nice, somebody beat me again.
Got frustrated that I could not find the LX470 I wanted so I looked a some new cars - Toyota, Honda.
Nothing tripped my trigger, so continued looking for an LX470.
Turned my nose up on a 2006, 91K miles, wasn't nice, wanted $23K. Lexus Dealer would not sell it to me as it had an open recall.
Offered $18K for a 2004 with 110K miles, been in accident, side air bag, but looked great, dealer was firm at $19,300.

My dream was a Black with Tan LX470 like that 2003 - should have bought it.

Then a 2002 Black with Tan LX470 appeared on Ebay with only 24K miles in mint condition.
So I decided it was for me and I purchased it sight unseen.
Owned by some rich dude in Santa Barbara, California.
Has a new set of Michelin tires and has just gone through a minor service.
I guess the next one is a "major" at 30K miles.
Should arrive later this week.

So, what are your thoughts on a practically new 14 year old LX470.

CONGRATS! I have the LC version of your car, and it is a fantastic machine. I didn't want the air suspension when i bought it new, thus went LC.

Hoping to upgrade to LX570 next year or so

Our 2005 LC has 268k trouble free miles.

So many positive owner reports about these cars, good hear your positive experience too.

Have not heard of an LC -- I'm a newbie with Lexus. This 2002 LX470 is my first ever Lexus.

LC= land cruiser

Same as your car. You have a few extra doo dads + air suspension.

My brothers 2006 Land Cruiser/LX470 has 513K miles on it

OK. I've seen Land Cruisers on the road. Missed the nomenclature LC.
Still learning about these cars.
Since the early 1990's I have been an ISUZU Trooper fan. My son and I have
had a 1989, 1999, 1998, 2000, and a 1999 Troopers.
Hoping the LX470 is a step above.

You could have kept it...it has a hydraulic, NOT AIR, suspension.

If you have air in an LX suspension system, you have major issues.

It's an entire flight of stairs above...check reliability ratings on any website. Congratulations on your new truck. Check maintenance schedules for time intervals...you've essentially got an unbelievably low mileage truck, but you've also got a 14 year old truck...I would baseline the truck and definitely feed her a new timing belt...again it's time, not mileage. You can download an owners manual on the Lexus website in the owners section. Input your vin and you can see any services performed at a dealer since the truck was new.

Enjoy...

My bad
I meant hydraulic not air

I didn't sell my LX

I just bought LC instead due to many people having the hydraulic issues later in life

I wouldn't worry but I couldn't resist...for some reason this forum is half-stuck on air v. hydraulic.

Realize very few people with working AHC ever post to say it works. If someone has an issue with it, that normally makes headlines.

Ryan, iirc, both failures were caused by lack of draining / flushing the globes and accumulator per maintenance time or mileage intervals

Every mechanic I've spoken to says not to waste the money flushing the AHC.

Many "mechanics" say you should never change transmission fluid.

You're saying that you've talked to Toyota and / or Lexus Techs who've advised you to ignore what the shop manual recommends?

What happens when your AHC goes TU under warranty because you didn't change the fluid per the manufacturer. Clue: You get to pay.

I'm the second owner of a 2002 LX470 (purchased in 2004) and still drive it comfortably at 154,000. I can't say enough about this little gem. Live in Maryland, and the few snow storms we have had in the 13 years here, I can drive without concern where I need to get. I'm a busy mom and cart around kids everywhere. The ride is smooth, quiet and luxurious. I had to replace the suspension in 2010 (can't confirm but have heard this is one of the years that suspension was an issue so just find out) and due to cost my husband had a Toyota suspension put in so I lost the capability of going up or down in height (never used it anyway except for my older aunt who needed it lower to get in one time) - truck still rides smooth and quiet despite that. After 14 years some cosmetics to the outside could be addressed but it still looks really great in the pearl color, with tan interior. Congratulations - you got a cream puff as I did in 04 when some rich guy just wanted to trade in for a newer model and his company paid the bill. Enjoy!
