Default air con problems

good day!!

I am looking to purchase an 03 lx470, it has 118t miles, alot of service records and seems to be well taken care of there is only one problem tho

http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...06551042&Log=0

the cars aircon(front and back) is blowing hot air. the compressor seems to be turning on but still very hot air.

my questions are
1) what could be the possible causes?
2) how much to get fixed?
3) is the car a good deal?
4) any one familiar with this car?(from a member here?)

thank you in advance

Causes might include low freon level, compressor going bad, blocked orifice tube, etc., etc., etc. There are a few anecdotal reports of leakage due to rotting on tubes going back to the rear a/c.

Impossible to know without a shop diagnosing the system. That said, LC and LX's do not have the rep of some American trucks of slow leakage from year to year...my -01 has never been recharged and will still freeze your tail off.

"A good deal" depends a lot on the area...have you done your homework on the web to see what similar trucks are selling for?? You might also post your question on MUD, maybe it belonged to a member there.

thanks for the reply.
the price and condition, except for the a/c, seems to be a good deal here in NY
i hoping to pull the trigger already just worried about the expense on getting it fixed

btw dealer gave me small disc to be able to fix it( hopefully) the discount placed me in a possible win/lose situation.

Check the AC line under the passenger fender - if oily, you have lo or hi line (feeds the rear system) break. The manual calls for a frame/body separation to correct - about $3400

If I were buying a 12 year old NE truck, I'd be a bunch more concerned as to rust than a/c. Have the dealer put it on a lift, remove the 2 skidpans, and see what's up there.

Get a pre-purchase inspection from a Lexus dealer or a good independent shop...post a request for a good shop's location on mud and see what you find.

I guarantee rust will make servicing the truck a nightmare.
