Unhappy annoying noise while shifting gear from "p" to "D"

recently bought lx470 1999
i hv an issue regarding my trucks gear shifting when ever m trying to shift the gear position from "D" to "P" directly and from "D" to "R" / "R" to "D" (i hope u get what m trying to say)
i makes a annoying nudge noise like metal hit each other but the car stayes in its position fine n da car dose not jerk or nudges only the noise it makes, but if i shift the gear position from "N" to "D" or "D" to "N" its fine n smooth no noise at all
n while driving at low speed leaving the gas pedal idle n trying to hit the gas pedal n leave it idle again (like jerking the pedal) also makes same noise but it is quit low noise then it makes while da car is in still
my dealer said me to change the gear moldings n gear cushions etc stuffs n it cost me around 800$ but still no improvements n now they are asking me to change my front differential n axle n many other stuffs
, for which dey are asking me spend more then 4000$!!!!! m worried
is it a normal noise?? or something wrong with the truck ???or is the dealer just trying to eat all my savings
help me plzz

try to grease the shaft and between joints. Do not over grease it though.

The jerk from P to D, or D to R, is likely the U joint. I am replacing mine shortly and will let you know.

As the FSM notes (just like any other greased spline slip joint), you grease it until you see grease exude a bit from the seal.

If you're not seeing that old grease come out and be replaced by new grease, you drop the shaft, pull the two pieces apart, clean, and re-grease. If still no grease, you need a new seal from your friendly local dealer.

It can't be nothing wrong with the car. I've driving my 2002 LX470 for about 4 years. But only lately it developed exact same problem you described in this tread. It wasnt like that at least a decade. Only now it develops this annoying noise between D and R (vice versa)

We need to find out exactly what happened here.

The fact that "they all do that" doesn't necessarily mean that they all should do that.

Greasing the u-joints and splines on both drive shafts eliminate the problem.

Search the 100-series forum on mud for "driveshaft clunk" and go forward.
