Seems that after 11 years the paint is coming off the side of the roof rack. Anyone else have this problem? Does the rack come off (sides) to be repainted?

Rack does come off, but you must remove part of the headliner inside to do it. The black paint on my 98 started to peel. I sanded it, used a drop cloth and spray painted it instead. Worked well.

My 05 has the same paint as the body (golden pearl) and so far no issues.

Can you remove the sides only. Not the end pieces that attach to the roof?

End caps(4) pop off, there are 2 torx head bolts in each foot, take those out and the rack pulls off the roof. Then you can completely disassemble it when it's on the ground and paint it to your desired shade.

BTW, batmbl, if yours is a 2005 it's Blizzard Pearl, not Golden Pearl....just sayin.

I stand corrected on both points. For the record, a local body shop told me about the rack. Of course, I didn't take him up on the offer. The color was just a slip of the keyboard. Actually, I was just making sure you were paying attention

I've got a Blizzard Pearl 05 too....s'how I know.

Thanks for your coments. I took it in to my body shop on Monday, they removed the entire rack in 20 minutes and I get it put back on tomorrow.

Looks great. They painted the sides only. Not the cross pieces or corners.
