Default 2003 LX470 with 230K..would you buy?

Hi all,

Been a lurker and decided to join up finally. Have been looking at LX470s for a bit. Ran across an 03 with 230K. They're asking 10,500. exterior and interior in nice shape but the mileage worries me a bit even though I know these can go forever with proper maintenance.

Need some advice from the experts here. With this limited info, should i even consider it?

Thanks in advance.

Eric

It's probably a pretty good price. That is a lot of mileage. You'd need good mechanical skills

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, maybe too much risk/maintenance to take on. So my search continues.

I think the sweet spot for me would be a 2005 with around 100-120K.

Figure $20k+ if you find a good one that has been well maintained.

I am not afraid of those kind of miles. Can you share where the vehicle is located if you are going to pass?

drewconti@comcast.net is my email

thanks in advance

I know most of Lexus vehicles are bullet proof(especially LS and LX) but I would spend a little more for more recent and less mileage just to decrease the chance that you need to spend extra money on parts to replace and etc.

Default 2003 LX 470 with 86K miles.. just bought at 12,900.

I don't have access to service records partly because I'm in Central America. This truck is originally from Canada, it looks great inside and out and seems to run perfectly. All the electronics work and the leather is not perfect but very good. I want to get the fluids up to speed and would appreciate comments regarding maintainence and problems other owners have had.

You need to find out about the timing belt replacment. If its origninal it should be replaced at 90K or about 7 yrs.

Is the replacement of the timing belt an absolute must at 90K miles or do you wait for some indication of a problem?
Thanks

It needs to be changed at 7 years or 90k miles whichever comes first. Don't wait for your engine tell you something

what Max said. It tells you when the valves bang on the pistons and then - well - break out the wallet.

The job is about 1200 at the stealer. If you are mechanically inclined, its about an 8 hour job and about $300 in parts

My '99 LX 470 (owner since 2002 & 31,000 miles) has been absolute trouble free up until yesterday when the steering ignition rod broke.

The truck currently has 181,000 miles and I recently spent close to $1600+ on pretty comprehensive maintenance that included but not limited to the following items

Fluids:

Power steering
Brake fluid
Coolant flush
Front and rear Differentials
Transmission
AHC flush ( Suspension fluid flush using 3 cans)

Brakes:

Pads/Rotors not too long ago

Engine:

Timing and all the other accessory belts
New thermostat
Plugs/Coils
T-thermostat pipe that's prone to cracking causing coolant leak and stranding

And over all inspection by the lead Toyota Master mechanic and every thing checked out great.

So the answer is, I won't mind buying a truck that's been religiously maintained like mine but where do you find those

Reply to Max

Took your advice and had timing chain changed. I feel much more comfortable although that and some other minor issues cost nearly $1,000.
