LX info and diff from LC
Hello,
My first post here. I've had several mid 90's LC's and two 1997 LX's. Now looking the the newer body LX's 1998-1999 as my 'beater' SUV. I've read all the info here I could but am still looking for the normal 'issues' with the 98-99 models. Also, I know the differences between the LC & LX but is it worth the premium? Wholesale prices are $4K more for the 98, $3.3K more for the 99 and $3.3K more for the 2000 model year.
Is the LX worth the premium? I thought it was on my last 1997 LX but there was not much difference in price between the LX and LC.
Thanks,
Todd

An electric rear locker is available in the 98-'99 LC. It is also easier to modify the suspension in the Lnad Cruiser. However, the LX has better leather and a better sound system.

When I bought my '03, the LX was the same price if not less than the LC from the same year. Look at the private party prices, not the wholesale ones unless that's how you're buying. Back when I bought in early '06, a '03 LX CPO w/ warranty and 49K mi was the same price as a LC w/ 70K mi and no warranty. It was a no brainer, plus, as an ex-audiophile, I wanted the levinson audio. The memory seats are nice, too, as my wife is 5' while I'm over 6'. As far as aftermarket accessories, most are interchangeable. You can buy most LX parts (engine, brakes, drivetrain are all identical to the LC, as are stuff like oil/cabin filters, brake pads, wheel bearings, etc., so you can buy parts from the toyota dealer for the LX if you DIY). In fact, my Toyota dealer here in AZ will service LX's but all the dealers I've called in So. CA won't.
