Default Scratch along front cupholder cover

Both of the 2001 LX470's we had developed a long horizontal scratch on the front cupholder cover wood. We had the cover open most of the time, and apparently it rubbed against the back of the console.

I now have a 2007 LX, and would like to avoid the defacement while leaving the cover open (for sunglasses, cell phone, pens, reading glasses, whatever).

Anyone have any suggestions?

Or maybe glue a little felt onto the console piece that it's rubbing against.

Just let it get scratched and then have the dealer replace it...over and over again.

That's what I do. It's a flawed design.

I have the same scratch! Didn't know it was due to the design. I'll have the dealer take a look.

Every squeak, rattle, loose piece of trim, or hint of abnormal wear is a result of a design/manufacturing defect. I take each and every one to the dealer and complain. Without such feedback Toyota will never better their products and I will not be a satisfied consumer.

well, i gotta say this, quit complaining and do something

you pay for the price of the quality; the more expansive the better quality. If you want the best quality with no flaw(hardly any) go with bentley or rr

For how much I paid for my LX, I expect it to be absolutely perfect in every way until my 100K mile warranty runs out.

That cover was not intended to have that wood cover over it. It's an afterthought that gets glued to the original plastic cover.

A friend of mine who has a 2002 Land Cruiser has exactly the same issue. No pwood over the plastic.

Mine also has wear marks. I use a piece of foam sheeting (like the kind you use to pack dishes for shipping) in between. It works.
