Default High Pitched Whistle/Whine @ Highway Speeds

Have any of you noticed a high pitched whine/noise coming from passenger side area (engine compartment/air vent?) of the vehicle on cold mornings (below 30 degrees)? I usually notice this at highway speeds and it remains constant with heat and/or radio off. Sounds like a faint, but high pitched radio frequency or like your ears are ringing slightly, if that makes any sense. At first, I thought it could be something with the new VVTi set up or the EFI (I have a '06 model), but it has primarily been ocurring in my early morning commute in colder weather. This noise completely goes away when coasting at highway speeds, but as soon as gas is applied, it comes back. Can't say I have noticed it on warm afternoons, etc. Any thoughts?
