DVD/Navigation Options for 1999 LX470
hey fellas,
i've got a dearly loved 1999 LX470 and the Nakimichi CD Player just died. from reading the forum, it sounds like mine lasted a bit longer than most, but it's gone now none-the-less. So, instead of replacing the unit with another one which might only last a year or so, I'm looking to replace the entire unit with one of the new DVD player / Navigation systems. the only problem is i can't seem to find out which units are...
1. compatable with the 1999 LX470
2. work the best
i've heard the lx has some wierd wiring harness and only a few units will work with the truck. anyone gone down this road... which unit did you install... how's it performing?
thanks,

I have fitted a JVC Double din unit with a rear screen, I hooked it up to the factory amp and speakers and it sounds great. Everything works including the factory subwoofer, wiring is not a problem if you know what you are doing and the amp is happy to work with any aftermarket deck as long as it has front and rear RCA output.
I made a faceplate around the deck using matt black sheet of perspex (plastic). No damage was done to the original faceplate or plugs ,so I can fit the original deck back in to it in about 10 minutes.
I have attached a photo.
Hope this helps.
Leon.

We just had a Kenwood DNX-7100 installed with two 8" screens for 2nd row - they are really good replacement headrests. We spent $3550 installed - here's what we've got
7" screen in dash with touch screen controls and remote (also plays DVD)
HD based Navigation with real-time traffic (XM)
XM Radio
Bluetooth for cellular hands free
Dual zone audio - so rear can be on different source or muted on headrests, and or on XM radio, Am/Fm, etc.
In Dash DVD player - for rear headrests (8" screens) with wireless headphones
Rear backup video camera in license plate frame
IPod adapter - and USB or other flash and HD based audio/video
The only thing we "lost" was the subwoofer - which we're going 3rd party aftermarket on... Super clean install
