Lost only key to LX450 - need help!
Somehow we managed to lose the only key we had for the LX450 and now I'm kicking myself for not making a copy of the key.
I called a local locksmith who told me that its a Lexus dealership only issue and the vehicle needs to be programmed to the key.
Is this true? It definately doesn't look like a chipped key at all....just an internal cut.
I've searched around the forums and I can't tell if it is Dealer only or not...
Are there any locksmiths who can cut the key by the VIN in AZ? I understand we'll have to provide proof of ownership which is not a problem.
I'm going to go crazy if I have to have the Lexus towed down to the nearest dealer just to get a key made.

Lexus of Tucson sent to Detroit to have my spare master key cut. With the lock tag number, it took about ten days. But RX keys have chips that are programed to the ECU, preventing theft. The dealer handled this for me.
As you didn't give a year, did your key have door lock/unlock/alarm buttons? Or a plain inside cut key with no buttons. If buttons, programming may be needed. Lexus would know for your year LX.
I was supplied with the lock number key tag in my owners manual. I don't think it's matched to the VIN. Lexus again would know.

The absolute worst case scenario is that you'll need to get a new lockset from Lexus. I know of someone who had their LX 450 broken into and had the spare key stolen from the vehicle.
Your local Lexus dealership may be able to help you if they can get the key code via your VIN...but I don't think that's possible -- check with them to be sure.
There is NO chip in the keys for the LX 450.
