I recently bought an extra remote/key for my lx470. I've carefully followed the programming instructions to get the truck to start using the new key. All I get is a flashing security light that doesn't stop. The blade on the new key is a little longer but it still unlocks everything on the truck. I'm wondering if the blade being a little longer is what's preventing the car from recognizing the sensor in the key. Does anyone have any info on my situation? Thanks in advance.

Isn't the long blade for the early 98-99 LX's?

From 98-01' the LX used the long key blade for the vehicles, but then from 02-06' the LX now uses the short blade. I dont know why they did this but hopefully this helps. another thing is was the key cut before or is it a new key and uncut key?

recently, i called the lexus dealer and asked would it matter if i used a short or long blade and the dealer said it would matter since its so high-tech and theft-deterent. i thought he was b/sing because he said that the short blade was cheaper than the long blade. but it is true, it matters.
